Islamabad and Lahore, Pakistan: Our Migrant Resource Centres (MRCs) in Pakistan launched their first youth volunteer drive in April 2021 through the MRC social media platforms offering an opportunity for the youth of Pakistan to connect with the MRCs and support in raising awareness on safe and orderly migration by reaching out to communities and young people.
Some key elements of this initiative are:
- 90 people from 17 different cities across Pakistan applied to become MRC volunteers;
- 20 volunteers are selected for a comprehensive migration training programme;
- The MRC team conducted a meet and greet session on 10th June with the participants; and
- Extensive virtual and face-to-face training sessions are taking place on 21st-30th June
The training and regular engagement with the MRCs will enable volunteers to establish better linkages in their communities, gain more trust and raise awareness on safe migration. They will also help to spread factual information about the risks and dangers of irregular migration in their communities, with a specific focus on would-be migrants and youths.
