Developing the Iraqi Government’s knowledge and expertise in migration management (IMED)

Project IMED is designed to provide selected decision-makers from five ministries in Iraq the platform to enhance their existing knowledge on migration governance through a series of expert workshops, intended to complement national migration-related priorities. The primary objective of the project is to strengthen the institutional capacities of, and educate, key ministries in Iraq on migration governance.

The project supports the training of selected decision-makers from the following ministries:

  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Ministry of Migration and Displacement
  • Ministry of Interior
  • Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs
  • Ministry of Planning

To this end, Project IMED aims at advancing the knowledge base of key Iraqi ministries in the field of migration; developing the technical expertise of key Iraqi ministries in the field of migration; and fostering standards and best practices in migration governance in Iraq. The initial focus of the Project is on educational and training elements which, it is hoped, will translate into meaningful and sustainable methods on understanding, developing and promoting a whole-of-government approach towards migration governance.

This project is funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration (SEM).
