ICMPD facilitates visit of Türkiye’s Presidency of Migration Management to Pakistan

In April 2023, ICMPD arranged a visit for Türkiye’s Presidency of Migration Management, as the Chair of the ICMPD Steering Group. The purpose was to discuss migration partnerships, voluntary return, and reintegration with the Government of Pakistan. Ms. Sedef Dearing, Head of the Budapest Process Secretariat and Silk Routes Region, accompanied the delegation during the visit.

During the visit, Türkiye’s and ICMPD’s delegation met with key officials, including the Minister and Secretary of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, the Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, the Additional Secretary UN of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency.

Recognizing migration as an important global policy issue, Syed Haider Shah, Additional Secretary UN, emphasised the importance of a sustainable solution, which involves equal attention to legal migration pathways and readmission. The Secretary of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development expressed full support for the PMM and ICMPD, welcoming the plan to establish a third Migrant Resource Centre in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The promotion of well-managed legal migration was also highlighted. The Director General of the FIA stated readiness to support a practical solution for return and reintegration.
