Under the Project IMAG (Supporting a Whole of Government Approach to Migration Management in Iraq), funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), the ICMPD conducted the final (2nd) Technical Meeting on the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Tool for Measuring Projects on Reintegration of Returning Migrants in Iraq on 25 February 2024 in Baghdad, Iraq. Technical-level staff and experts from the Iraq’s Federal Government and the Kurdish Regional Government participated in the meeting. Members of international organisations and non-governmental organisations involved in return and reintegration related programmes in Iraq also participated, with important insights and perspectives provided.
Under one of two components of Project IMAG, MEL experts have been engaging partner ministries to understand current MEL capacities and needs for further development. Based on the discussions during bilateral interviews and the technical meetings, the experts have developed a custom-made MEL Tool and created Reintegration Results Pathway Diagrams, one each for the Federal Iraqi Government and the Kurdish Regional Government, to help the partners ministries better measure the outputs and results/outcomes of projects related to reintegration of returning Iraqi migrants.
The following day, 26th February 2024, the ICMPD conducted the Closing Meeting of Project IMAG. Senior officials of partner ministries from the Federal Iraqi Government and the Kurdish Regional Government were in attendance. The meeting provided an opportunity to take stock of what has been achieved under the project as well as to discuss the sustainability of projects outputs/outcomes with proposals of ways to ensure the day-to-day applicability of the project outputs.
